Would there be any legal issues with this idea? I’m trying to start my own business.

Dr. Deth has it right. Why don’t you just open up your own Adult Production Company instead.

Is there a place I can find a mentor for small business startup?

Posted on January 31st, 2010 by admin in business startup | 7 Comments »

I would like to start up a photography studio, but I am a very artsy person, so the paperwork and legal startup issues are tough for me to navigate.

There are several places where you may be able to find a mentor:

1. Government Mentoring Programs such as SBDCs, which works with community colleges and local business development councils to offer mentoring programs http://www.sba.gov/sbdc/sbdcnear.html ; or the Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training http://www.sba.gov/womeninbusiness/wnet_roundtables.html

2. Volunteer programs such as SCORE http://www.score.org which is composed of mostly retired executives and entrepreneurs

3. Formal mentoring programs such as
Athena Foundation http://www.athenafoundation.org/programs/globallinks.html
Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program http://www.helzbergmentoring.org/HEMP/
The Aspen Institute MicroMentor Program http://www.micromentor.org

4. Professional organizations such as the National Women’s Business Council http://www.nwbc.gov/Mentoring/programs.html

5. Industry and trade associations

6. Local business groups, such as the chamber of commerce

7. Local chapters of business groups

How do you start your own business.. serious answers please?

How do you go about starting your own business about computer programing, fixing, building computers and things of that nature for people. A friend and I want to start something up but i have no idea of what steps to take. Is there a good market and chance it can work out? Please give me as much info as you can please!

The biggest asset you can have is your reputation. So long as people know that you are a good worker, and first and foremost honest, people will come to you when they need to find people to fix their computer or do some programming. Of course, you need to advertise yourself a little bit, and tell all of your friends to help you spread the word that you’re now hanging out your shingle.

The next steps would be ensuring you have enough parts and inventory to build whatever it is you intend to build/repair, etc and make sure you source those well. Don’t just look overseas because it’s cheap – know who your source is, and what their track record is…you don’t want to build something to find out their products are exploding, and you don’t even know it’s their product you have in your PC (think about that one for a minute…)

Good luck, and when you’re ready to move ahead feel free to contact me with any other questions. I’ve done a similar start-up, not related to PCs, but in the payments industry and have some knowledge of what it takes to be successful.

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of starting your own business compared to buying a franchise?

Posted on January 29th, 2010 by admin in starting your own business | 1 Comment »

The bottom-line issue that will help you decide whether franchise ownership is really for you is to think in terms of control: how much control do you prefer to exert (or not exert) over how the business is operated.

Franchise ownership works for those persons who want to start their own business, but don’t really want to start EVERYTHING from scratch.

The parent franchise organization removes a lot of barriers because they have thought through a lot of what is involved in getting the business off the ground and moving…but then managing/growing the business is sometimes left up to you – the franchise owner.

Starting your own business from scratch gives you the leeway of doing everything your own way…but you’ve also got to struggle through all of the decisions regarding products/services to offer, naming, and pricing all on your own.

So, it really all depends on how much business ownership latitude you REALLY want.

Check out :http://sbinfocanada.about.com/od/franchiseinfo/a/buyfranchise.htm it highlights the advantages/disadvantages of buying a franchise.

Best of luck deciding between the two!

Kind Regards,

How do i write a business plan about making a dog supplies store?

Posted on January 29th, 2010 by admin in business plan | 2 Comments »

My teacher wants me to make my own business plan about a dog supplies, and i dont know how to do it. =\

Ask yourself:
What is my product? (obviously dog supplies)
What is my product portfolio?
Who are my customers?
Who are my suppliers?
How much starting captital do I need?
How do I finance it?
What are my recurring costs?
Do I need employees?
Do I need licenses?
Do I need to register for a fictitious name?
Will I run it as a sole proprietor ship or as a a corporation?
How will people learn about my store?
How long will it take for my store to return a profit?
Who is my competition?
Why should customers buy from me instead of them?
What are my strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats?
What is my mission statement?

You answer those question in an essay format and you got yourself a business plan.
