Has anyone used a free webpage for a startup business?
I am in the baby steps of starting my own business and am not quite ready to do a full fledge website. I have one client right now and want to get comfortable working for them so I feel more confident in trying to market myself and bring in more clients. Does that make sense!? Any insight would help, thanks!
I agree with the first answer. You should start right at the first step. You don’t want to waste time doing something that you know you’ll have to throw them away eventually (your free website in this case). You should start with a good domain name that can help your customer remember your site, simple yet effective webpage and hosting. Preferably, all of these services are under one roof like what you can find in this link, http://www.website.ws/annie37
Best of all, if you can also subscript to their affiliate programme to make extra money at the same time.

The problem with a free webpage include:
1. A Geocities or other free site address does not look professional or that you are in a serious business.
2. When you finally move to your own domain and paid webhosting, basically all your efforts in promoting the free webpage is kaput. You will have to start all over again. That means you wasted all your effort in promoting the first free website.
I can understand the need for doing babysteps. You have to understand though that your webpage is your brochure in the online world. It is your marketing tool. As such, you want to convey the best look for your business; and convey the image that you are a professional and serious business owner.
I suggest you use a paid web hosting but choose the most basic plan. GoDaddy.com for example has a hosting plan for only $3.99 a month.

Image is important to a business’ success. If you use a free website host, you’ll be sending the wrong image. If you can’t afford a $9.95 per month site on Yahoo Small Business, you’ll be out of business before you start. If you want to appear professional, invest the time and a few bucks a month to look and act professional.
