are free lighters some sort of business strategy?
Last night i went to a liquor store to buy a cigar. After i bought the cigar the clerk handed me a lighter, i said no thanks and he said you don’t want it? i was like alright thanks and he said no problem and i left. Is there some business strategy here where they try and get me to come back for more cigars?
Yes – it is either a promotional item from the cigar maker or from the tobacconist
With Linux creeping ever closer is it time for Apple to rethink their business strategy?
This question was not intended to create a ‘flame war’ so please keep your responses polite
Computer Nut
In no part of this question was Microsoft even remotely mentioned
I really dont think apple has as much to lose as microsoft. apple people are apple people, and windows people are could-be linux people. Perhaps they should rethink their business strategy to adjust to upcoming changes, but like i said dont have as much to lose as windows.
Business owners, do you have an exit strategy?
Did you start your business with selling it as your exit strategy?
If your business is profitable and growing, would you consider selling if you got a good offer?
Or, would you consider the fact that others see value in your business as validation that you should NOT sell it?
We’ve had a few offers, substantial enough, but my husband wants to continue to build the company for 10 more years. At that time, we’ll keep 250K worth of assets to transfer to Costa Rica in exchange for citizenship status. We’ll sell off everything else, including our valuable customer list.
What does ‘SCL Business Strategy" stand for?
This has been used within a Product Development job description.
The context is describing the steps required to research prior to launching a product.
It states " How this product fits in with the SCL business strategy"
Hoping someone can help before I have the interview!!
I think it stands for Supply Chain and Logistics

What generic business level strategy does Starbucks most closely follow?
Does Starbucks follow a differentiation strategy, an overall cost leadership strategy, a focus strategy or does it follow a hybrid strategy?
I’m thinking it follows what is primarily a differentiation strategy, but has elements of a focus strategy – many would say that it caters to a more affluent, "focused" demographic.
They follow the same practices as the Tobacco companies "when they are addicted they will always comeback"
What is the link between an international business’s strategy and its human resource management policies?
Is this a question for a class?
Perhaps the link is respecting different cultures – religious and heritage wise? Recognizing different country’s holidays? I would think they would try to incorporate many of the society’s culture into its business culture in order to allow the company more access to a new culture. That way the company comes across as familiar and welcoming instead of foreign and cold.
Hope this helps!
Change in career (From Tech to Business Analyst/Strategy Planning)?
Hello Friends,
I am working in a telecommunications firm focusing completely on technology development. Now-a-days I feel to change my career path to include strategy planning/ Business analyst positions. Can someone help me on how to achieve this?
Thanks much,
JAY.
Having done both, allow me to point out:
Tech work is very hands on. You are challenged constantly and the results (a.k.a. fruits of your labor) are sometimes immediate but almost always apparent.
Analysts / Planners are very cerebral and the work is challenging, but not as result oriented. The work you do as an analyst may or may not come to fruition. And, if it is you may never see your results. Plus, be prepared to be seated in one chair in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.
After 4 years of working as an analyst, I came to realize that I require a certain job satisfaction. I hated working 12 hours on a report that sometimes wasn’t even used because the big dogs weren’t as concerned about the details.
If you continue with your move, make sure to give yourself an out just in case you get into it and realize it’s not where you want to be.
That’s what I did and am now working in an aerospace company that allows me the privilege of working both sides of the fence while paying me more than I was paid as an analyst.
But in answer to your question, to be an analyst or planner, you will need to show a propensity to being the type of personality that I just described.
People who hire analysts are very keen to this and will be looking for indicators from you either for or against….
