What was the business strategy in the Preds’ clearance sale?

Posted on November 15th, 2009 by admin in business strategy | 5 Comments »

I’ve never really understood this whenever teams move. Even if the Preds kept those stars they traded away, they just have to relocate and they’ll have pretty much the same team, right?

It helps to break the lease in Nashville if no one is interested in buying tickets. Thus the Preds being crap actually makes them worth more money. Craig Leipold probably does not want to send good money after bad as well. Ballsile has already set the bar very high at 238 million even if the team goes to someone else minus any stars. Given that the KC offer is 50 million less than Ballsile’s, I suspect that Bettman will make it up to Leipold somehow behind the scenes.

How do I create a business strategy?

Posted on November 12th, 2009 by admin in business strategy | 1 Comment »

What are the steps one should follow? Are there any guidelines one should consider? What about a template? Or any "how to" books on the subject? I would love to see an example. Thanks!

You basically need to include the following items;

- Product Description
- Technology Used
- Market Analysis
- Industry Analysis
- Target Market
- Facilities and Equipment (Operations)
- Competition and Differentiations

Are there any tried-and-tested methodologies for helping a company formulate business strategy?

Posted on November 6th, 2009 by admin in business strategy | 1 Comment »

…particularly where a company is completely unsure about what its future strategy should be. What would a strategic consultancy firm do this in such a situation?

Hi
This is a massive question to be asked here, and one on which I can only give a brief overview.

LONG TERM GOALS

Essentially any company would want to know your long term goals or requirements for the business – your exit strategy if you like. In other words how long do you expect to be running the company? how much do you want to make etc.

DIAGNOSTIC
Then when the direct is set a consultant will undertake a diagnostic, often using tools like SWOT and PESTLE or other commercial diagnostic tools ( http://www.rapidbi.com/bir/ ) – free version available – http://www.rapidbi.com/bir/bir-solo.html

This will help the owner of the company and the consultant understand the task that faces them.

STRATEGY
Then strategies will be identified and developed to help achieve these stated goals.

IMPLEMENTATION & MONITORING
The over the months and years the strategies need to be checked/ evaluated to make sure they are delivering and changed if necessary (and change will be required)

Hope this helps
Good luck.
In planning they say that you should put 80% into your planning and 20% into action. Many business owners spend less than 10% of their time working ON their business and 90% working IN their business – and wonder why their business is not doing as well as they expect

Good luck

Is it a good business strategy to add a lot of water to your "gourmet" cat foods? Will more people buy it?

Posted on November 4th, 2009 by admin in business strategy | 3 Comments »

I noticed that Merrick’s Five Star Gourmet Entrees now contain so much water, you can hear it sloshing when you shake the can. It needs to be drained off, unless you prefer to give little Fluffy "cat soup" for dinner.

My cats eat a lot of canned food. Lick Your Chops canned chicken was getting very "sloshy". It must just have been a run on that food. I can get it now and it is as firm as the lamb.

My cats don’t like Merrick’s at all (I love those cute names – Grannie’s Pot Pie, etc.). It contains an awful lot of vegetables and my cats eat the meat and leave the carrots and potatoes.
So I use Wellness and Natural Balance a lot. CA Natural is good too – my cats really like the salmon and sweet potato.

Web based business strategy regarding idea security?

Posted on October 26th, 2009 by admin in business strategy | 1 Comment »

I am interested in starting a web based business. I have an idea for a company that I feel is not already created. I also need to find some one to help build my website and program the site. My question is how can I protect my idea so that the people I trust to help me do not steal my idea. Should I get it copyrighted, patented or what and where is the best place to get that done.

Each nation has one or more organizations associated with copyrighting, patenting etc.

Here is one used in the USA
http://www.uspto.gov/

However, to protect your idea, you not only have to get it registered with the government, you have to be actively on the lookout for potential competitors using your idea, and taking them to court.

It might be wise to have your employees sign a non-compete statement, which bars them from working in the same kind of business for some # of years after they leave your company.

Is the Academy of Business Strategy UK/USA a recognised professional body in both countries?

A friend of mine is planning to apply to join the body.

best thing to do
find employers who would be expected to take such a professional accreditation seriously and ask them if they have heard of it, and do they regard it as relevant or usefull
