i need some advice regarding my starting business?

Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by admin in starting a business | 2 Comments »

i have started my own business i opened a place where i put PlayStations and users come and play for some money..something like a net cafe but for PlayStation… i need some ideas so that i can upgrade my business so that i gain money and minimize the loss… i thought about starting a tournament between players… yet i still need some bright ideas….
forgive me for my English and thanks in advance.

Sounds like an interesting business and a tournament is a good idea. Try to utilize social networks, like facebook, to promote your tournament and bring in more customers. Facebook is most widely used by teenagers, which is also probably your target market.

Setup a facebook group for you business, invite everyone you know, especially your current clients. Offer your current clients updates on promotional discounts as incentive to sign up to the facebook group. Send regular updates on promotions and events to your clients. Your clients will invite their friends (who they think would be interested in your service) to your group, who will then invite their friends and it’ll spread like wild fire.

In addition to a facebook group, setup an e-mail marketing campaign to send your regular clients updates on promotions that your business is offering (for example, Tuesday 20% off admission fee). Keeping your regular clients updated on new promotions will save the expense of trying to get new clients. You’ll get more from clients who already like what you’re offering and would most likely want more.

Hope this helps!

Should I start a business or keep it under the table?

Posted on February 21st, 2010 by admin in starting a business | 5 Comments »

I work a job in which I have four days off a week. I am also a licensed massage therapist and would like to do that at home on my off days. Would I be better off making this an established business or just having local clients that I know and keeping it cash only under the table?

you’re the master of your destiny buddy: you have your pen and your book, so now you can write your own story; but you’re the only one who knows better than anybody else which story you wanna write.

Do you all believe in starting business with no or minimal capital and how?

Went for a seminar yesterday and they can earn 1 million a year. Exclude insurance or property.

Don’t risk with what they offer you in a seminar: seminars is the way they made the million.
To start a business you need to have a clear idea about what you can, are able and willing to do. You have to put down a clear business plan, study the feasibility of your idea, consider all the costs with a safety margin (often, if things can go bad, they do).
Then, if you understand that your idea could work, you have to prepare a presentation in order to convince others it could work, and finally you have to source the money you need to start, trying to make your debt to third parties as small and as easy to repay as you can

Starting a business from home…what is involved…what can I expect to pay?

Posted on February 17th, 2010 by admin in starting a business | 5 Comments »

I’ve always wanted to start a business. I’m only 16, but I always hear about these young kids starting businesses early. I was planning on some type of home made bath products. Bath salts, lotions, soaps etc. How would I go about doing this? What would be the best way to start out? Would I sell my products to a shop? Should I start a website where people can order products? How much would the cost be?

I believe your choice of biz is a good one. But first let me give some info first about online biz. People on the Net search for information first before buying anything. They will look for useful info and then look for the best deals. Usually they will use the search engine such as google, yahoo or MSN. This three giants comprise 90% of all search done on the NET.

You can use this search engine in two ways, the free one or the paid one. The paid one are called pay-per-click advertising(PPC). If you go to any search engine usually the list at the top and on the right side are the paid one. While the big list usually 10 on each result pages are the free one. These lists are ranked using the search engine algorithm and all search engine has its own algorithm.

There are almost 100 millions website at the moment and you should understand by now it is not easy to be listed at the top. Usually only the first 3 pages of the result page or top 30 will get some clicked. That means if your website stay rank at no 50 for the rest of your life you might never get clicked ever. Anyhow if you need some ideas how it is done to get to the top you can check out below resources. hope that helps a bit.

How can I start a business drawing portraits?

Posted on February 5th, 2010 by admin in starting a business | 5 Comments »

I’m an art major in college, and I’d like to start a little portrait-drawing business this summer to make some extra cash. How would I go about doing this? Should I make a website? Flyers? How much should I charge for each drawing?

You could do it simply as a sole proprietor, if you wanted. You could do a website, but unless someone knows your out there, they may have trouble finding you. VistaPrint offers free business cards you can have printed, if you’d like to pass them out, but may not show people what you can do.

If you drew little portraits, I’ve often seen coffee shops displaying different drawings from independent artists. Perhaps you could offer to hang the painting, and give them a percentage of anything you make on them. In this case, you’d have to charge enough to cover your cost, your time, framing, and make enough for the owner of the place to consider putting your picture up. Perhaps you can even rotate the pieces of art between different shops too. When you frame them, make sure to put a business card under the glass so people can contact you for related projects (even if they don’t want the portrait).

I am starting a resurfacing (reglazing) business in AR, what types of insurance should I obtain?

Posted on January 16th, 2010 by admin in starting a business | 2 Comments »

I am starting the business with one office worker and myself doing the resurfacing.
For starters, the emloyees will be limited to 2, myself, and 1 office worker. Will I need workers’ comp? Should I go with liability only or an umberella policy? The business will be listed as an LLC with the state.

You need to sit down with a local, independent agent. Likely he’s going to recommend several policies – workers compensation for sure, general liability, commercial property coverage including an equipment floater, and commercial auto coverage.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of owning a franchise rather than starting a new small business?

Posted on December 15th, 2009 by admin in starting a business | 2 Comments »

Starting up a new "mom and pop" type business is statistically very risky. Numerous studies have been conducted on this subject, and the general consensus indicates that 90-95% of new independents fail within two or three years. The steep learning curve that is involved can be a killer all by itself. The few who do succeed in this business model typically have an extremely high level of expertise in their product or service. They’ve "lived it" all their lives.

When it comes to franchising, however, much of the risk is reduced, or even eliminated. Although there are no guarantees, this business model is as close as you’ll come to a guarantee of success. The same studies show that new franchise business startups rarely fail. The reason for this, quite simply, is because the often very long exercise of trial and error has already been done so many times that it’s reached the inevitable point of trying and succeeding. The franchiser has made it through the learning curve and, along the way, has developed the success secrets for that business. Those who fail in franchising almost always were not committed to following the franchiser’s systems. The main reason you buy a franchise is to minimize risk and to set yourself up for success.

Traditionally, in a new startup, independent business, you are almost always operating from a "shoot from the hip" mentality, which can lead to failure. There is no past experience to draw upon, and it becomes challenging to control all aspects of the business.

With a good, successful franchise model, you open yourself up to a deluge of information regarding all aspects of information, including financial assistance, site selection, and a wealth of knowledge from existing franchisees. Also, rapid growth is inevitable with the franchise model, which is only a good thing for a franchisee for many reasons, such as increased name/brand recognition and exposure to national advertising campaigns, which increase sales. Tremendous buying power because of constant expansion is also a major plus.

Of course, the key is to follow the proven system of success, so your creativity can be somewhat lessened. In addition, you will have to pay a franchise fee and an ongoing royality, and your individual ability to make changes to the franchise is reduced dramatically.

To summarize, franchising greatly reduces risk, enables you to follow a proven, successful system, and increases your chances of success in business exponentially.
