Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You

Huntington states that President John F. Kennedy’s speech in which he stated, “ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country…” was a symbolic moment that gave rise to a national sense of unity. In some instances, this may be true however, I would venture to say that there were many who are still waiting for their country to do for them rather than constantly doing it to them.
Huntington further speaks of the degradation of American national identity because of the advent of of racial preferences for certain groups of people.
