Equality was the basis of the funk band, both in music and in attitude. This idea of togetherness in motion is evident not only in the music itself but also in the group dynamic and characteristics of funk bands.
Unlike the previous Mowtown era, in the United Funk Era, the entire band was the focal point. On stage the musicians were just as important as the vocalists, signifying that each member was just one of many players.
